CPM has outlined two pathways for acceleration to Core Connections Algebra / Core Connections Integrated I in the 8th grade. Both pathways utilize the Core Connections, Courses 1-3 (CC 1-3) middle grades courses followed by Core Connections Algebra / Core Connections Integrated I.
There is no need to purchase special books for acceleration. Just follow the accelerated pathway of your choice through the regular books. In the few cases where the teacher guide uses a lesson from the second book out of sequence, those pages may be downloaded and copied for the students (see files below) or accessed from an eGuidebook. This approach gives schools flexibility from year to year as the number of students following the accelerated pathway fluctuates.
The Accelerated Pathway distributes the acceleration over grades 6 & 7 while the Compressed Accelerated Pathway accelerates students in grade 7. The Accelerated Pathway is preferred by the CPM mentor teachers and authors. The Compressed Accelerated Pathway follows the plan for compressed acceleration outlined in the CCSS Appendix A.
Which acceleration plan is best for your school site? Click the pathways in the flowchart below to see the course outlines, teacher guides, and planning timelines for the two pathways.
Below is an example of how the eGuidebooks correlate with the recommended pathway course outline found in the links above. Students/Teachers who have the Accelerated or Compressed Grade Pathway eBook bundles will have the associated eBooks along with the eGuidebook. Students using the eGuidebook will not need to go between the two associated eBooks, as long as the teacher follows the recommended pathway.
