Parent/Family Support Throughout the Year.
Most parents and families want to be included in discussions about their children’s school experience. As you move through the school year remember to connect with families as often as possible. Some teachers send out a letter at the beginning of each new chapter or quarter. Some teachers ask that students keep a portfolio of online work, or an online learning log that parents can access. Some teachers have students upload hand-written work with a camera enabled chromebook or similar device during class. These are all ways for parents to see both a student’s level of engagement as well as their ongoing growth and development. Even at higher grade levels where parents may not seek out the teacher as often, open communication initiated by the school can be valuable and influence the conversations that happen at home. This can encourage a more positive, open attitude about school-home communications in both directions.
