Celebrate: The CPM Three Pillars.
It is a great time of the year for reflection and celebration. You have worked hard and there are only a few weeks of school remaining. Over the next few weeks the Tips of the Week will ask you to reflect and celebrate on the positive growth in your classroom this year. If this makes you also want to set goals for improving your craft next year, that is fine, but please remember to celebrate what IS going well right now.
At CPM we talk about the three pillars of our research base that are key to an effective math classroom. They are listed below. We bet that you can see many of these in action in your classroom. Look for collaboration between students, problem based learning through the use of the problems in the CPM materials, and students engaged in the mixed spaced practice through the Review & Preview and closure work. Of course not all your students are demonstrating these three practices nor are they always engaged, yet whenever and wherever these things are happening, you are seeing success. We hope you celebrate that and keep it and the three pillars in mind when the time comes to plan for the next school year.
