Learning Events for Leaders


CPM provides specialized professional learning event for coaches, curriculum specialists, administrators, math department chairs, other teacher support personnel, and experienced CPM teachers. All leaders who are working with teachers using CPM student-centered math programs at the secondary level are welcome. Teachers implementing the CPM curriculum for the first time could search for local workshops first.

Workshop for District/Site Support Personnel

Support teachers, curriculum specialists, and site administrators in CPM schools.

This course is designed for site administrators and site support personnel such as curriculum specialists, coaches, counselors, and support teachers. Participants will be immersed in a CPM classroom setting to experience the curriculum from the perspective of both learner and instructor.  Teams will discuss the professional learning progression and how the school personnel can best support teachers, students and the community during the implementation phase and beyond. Additional discussion will center on working with all stakeholders (administrators, counselors parents, students, and community). Workshop attendees that also serve in the role of a coach, might also consider staying to attend the coaching workshop that follows to enhance their coaching skills.

Coaching Workshop

District coaches who support CPM teachers.

This course is designed for site based coaches in CPM schools. Participants will be immersed in a CPM classroom setting to experience the curriculum from the perspective of both CPM learner and CPM instructor as we explore how to best support teachers to maximize student learning. Topics will include how to look at student and teacher roles in a CPM classroom, how to support collaborative teams of teachers, and how to increase your effectiveness as a coach. 

Coaches might also consider attending the District & Site Support Workshop that precedes this course to strengthen their role in mathematics leadership.

Phase Two Workshop

Experienced CPM Teachers

This course is designed for teachers beyond their first year of implementing the CPM curriculum. Course will focus on the best practices for teaching. Now that you are familiar with the course content, how can you improve your practice to facilitate a more effective learning environment?

Prerequisite: Completion of CPM Implementation Workshop Series. Participants must provide their own laptop, possess a Teacher Edition eBook login credential for their course. Optional: a copy of NCTM’s Principles to Action.

Course Specific Implementation Workshops: Middle School, and High School.

CPM Middle School Curriculum (Core Connections, Courses 1-3)

CPM High School Curriculum Implementation Workshop (Core Connections Algebra, Core Connections Geometry, Core Connections Algebra 2, Core Connections Integrated 1-III)

These courses are designed for teachers in their first year of implementing the CPM curriculum. Participants will be immersed in a CPM classroom setting to experience the curriculum from the perspective of both learner and instructor. Course will include course overview, course mathematics, preparing to teach the course, lesson planning and teaching strategies for the student-centered classroom, introduction to the assessment site and other ancillary features, and vertical alignment to other courses in the series.

Participants must provide their own laptop and possess a Teacher Edition eBook login credential for their course.

Creating Collaborative Classrooms Workshop

Join CPM for this free professional learning opportunity facilitated by a highly qualified CPM Teacher Leader. This seminar is appropriate for grades 6 - 12 teachers.

Teachers report challenges in implementing the strategies that make students college and career ready in the 21st century.

  • How do you keep students engaged on interesting math problems?

  • How do you make sure students are discussing rich, mathematical concepts and ideas?

  • How do you shift the teaching focus from covering topics to deepening students’ understanding of the mathematics in each course?

In this workshop, teachers will experience the excitement of engaging mathematical lessons while discussing the mathematics with colleagues. Participants will learn how to adjust lessons to promote mathematical discourse while also experiencing strategies they can use to facilitate discussions as students grapple with engaging problems.
